Service Description
Relate Workshop - 6 hours CPD This one-day workshop will present some of the common heteronormative assumptions that the public and clinicians believe. These assumptions are often unquestioned because they are embedded in our society, and most of our clinical trainings. The day will be interactive. It will provide information on various gender, sexuality, erotic and relational diversities that are outside of heteronormativity and other “norms”. Through case studies, delegates will have an opportunity to think creatively “outside the box” on how they can adapt their existing practice to meet the needs of clients that do not fit with the dominant heteronormativity. Learning outcomes for participants 1- Gain more awareness of diverse gender, sexual orientations and relationship styles that do not fit the dominant heteronormativity. 2- Gain more awareness in unpacking heteronormative assumptions and messages in society and the narratives of clients. 3- Challenge our usual clinical thinking by adapting our theories and practices “outside the box” for our diverse clients who do not fit in heteronormativity. 4- How to apply the knowledge of gender, sexual and relationship diversities in the clinical setting. Benefits for participants 1- Update their current knowledge of human diversity 2- Update their current knowledge of the heteronormative structures of our society and clinical training 3- Refine clinical skills in working with LGBTQ+ populations. Teaching methods used 1- Interactive lecture 2- Case study discussions This workshop will be held at the beautiful Fermain Valley Hotel. Arrival at 9.30am with refreshments. Workshop starts at 10am. Excellent catering throughout the day, with morning and afternoon refreshments plus a conference lunch. Please advise us of any food allergies or dietary requirements.
